Brief Biography

Meet the Dynamic Air Marshal!

Introducing the remarkable Air Vice Marshal, Jomo Onyemaechi Osahor FNSE, born on 20th July 1965 in the picturesque town of Ajagbodudu, Delta State, Nigeria. He was destined for greatness, enlisting in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy's 33 Regular Course on 10th January 1983.

Ascending through the ranks with finesse, Jomo graduated as the top-performing Nigerian Air Force Cadet of his course, earning his wings as a commissioned Pilot Officer on 14th December 1985.

But that was just the beginning of his journey. Jomo's insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to attain a Bachelor of Engineering in Mech/Prod from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and a Master of Science in Engineering (Mech) from the renowned University of Lagos in 1999.

As an avid learner, he pursued further education, completing a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies, both from the prestigious University of Ibadan.

Jomo's impressive accomplishments extend beyond academia. He has a glittering array of military courses under his belt, including Helicopters Engineering in France, Type Rating Courses on various helicopters, and a Civil Military Coordination Course in Germany. His intellectual prowess shone through Junior and Senior Courses at Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, as well as a Defence Course at National Defence College Abuja.

The pinnacle of his career saw him hold influential appointments, from Commanding Officer at the Helicopter Overhaul Centre in Lagos to the Director General of Defence Research and Development Bureau. Jomo's innovations were legendary; partnering with esteemed institutions and industries, he revolutionized military technology.

Imagine a groundbreaking improvised Explosive Device (IED) Detector, designed in collaboration with Zaria's Centre for Energy Research and Training and India's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This groundbreaking device boasts a 70-meter standoff distance, the first of its kind globally!

But that's not all; Jomo's genius gave birth to the Compo Ration, with a year-long shelf life, and the first-ever indigenous military airboat, deftly navigating treacherous swampy terrains and uncharted shallow waters, thanks to academia and industry alliances.

A true leader and innovator, AVM Osahor's impressive accolades include the General Service Star, Pass Staff College dagger, and fellowships from Defence College and the International Agency for Emergency Managers.

Outside his illustrious career, Jomo finds solace in his beautiful family—a loving husband and father to three sons. During his leisure time, he immerses himself in books, travels the world, and plays a pivotal role in conflict resolution.

Truly, Air Vice Marshal Jomo Onyemaechi Osahor is an extraordinary force of nature—a visionary leader, an academic trailblazer, and an ingenious inventor!
