Dr. Harriet Lonka - Project Leader and Consultant

Dr. Harriet Lonka is a highly accomplished project leader, researcher, and consultant, with a strong focus on project and business development. Her expertise spans various fields, including risk management, environmental sciences, natural resources management, safety, and security. With a passion for driving positive change in society, she has dedicated her career to finding innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Harriet earned her Ph.D. in Legislative Studies from the University of Eastern Finland, where she specialized in studying the implementation of public strategies through legislation. However, her primary background lies in project management and business development. During her tenure at Gaia Consulting ltd from 2001 to 2009, she held the position of Business Director and Consultant. Notably, she played a pivotal role in creating and leading the Risk Management branch of Gaia. Her exceptional leadership and interdisciplinary expertise allowed her to spearhead numerous successful projects focusing on environmental risk, natural resources management, safety, and security. Her approach, often utilizing the triple helix model to connect the public sector, research institutions, and private actors, contributed significantly to the success of these projects.

Furthermore, Harriet has been actively involved in collaborating with EU programs and institutions, which further enriched her projects and widened their scope. Her dedication to research and development has remained unwavering, and she continues to contribute her vast knowledge and skills to the advancement of science and public administration.

Currently, Harriet is engaged in Post-Doctoral research as part of the Academy of Finland project IRWIN, which centers around National Preparedness-related legislation and governance. Her commitment to advancing public policy and preparedness is evident in her contributions to academia and her work on impactful research projects.
