Prof. Abubakar Sambo

Born on the 31st July, 1955 in Zaria, Kaduna State, Prof Abubakar Sani Sambo is a remarkable figure in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with First Class Honours from Ahmadu Bello University in 1979 and earned his DPhil degree from the University of Sussex in 1983.
Prof Sambo's illustrious career began as a Graduate Assistant at Bayero University, Kano in 1980, where he later became a Senior Lecturer. He then joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as a Reader and Director of the Sokoto Energy Research Centre. In 1991, he became a Professor at Sokoto.
His contributions extended to serving as the Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) from 1995 to 2004 and as the Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) for two terms, from 2005 to 2012.
Throughout his career, Prof Sambo actively engaged in teaching, research, and development, focusing on renewable energy technologies. He supervised numerous candidates to successful completion and published over 200 articles in various mediums.
Beyond his academic prowess, Prof Sambo's dedication to energy planning and sustainable practices earned him the position of Vice Chairman for Africa at the World Energy Council and the role of Special Adviser to the President on Energy.
A recipient of two national honors, Prof Sambo's impressive achievements have left a lasting impact on Nigeria's engineering landscape. Married and with four children, his legacy continues to inspire aspiring engineers and researchers alike.
